Fading Memories

Fading Memories : "The 2001 terrorist attack was a similar shock to the American system—jolting us out of the complacent 1990s in much the same way that Dallas jolted America out of the sleepy 1950s. "

Shocking! Halliburton profits up almost 40% in third quarter. Guess why.

Because of government contracts, especially in "the Middle East."
Halliburton (NYSE:HAL) announced today that third quarter 2003 income from
continuing operations was $92 million or $0.21 per diluted share. Net income was $58
million or $0.13 per diluted share, which includes a net loss from discontinued operations of
$0.08 per diluted share.
Revenues were $4.1 billion in the third quarter of 2003, up 39% from the third quarter of
2002. This increase is largely attributable to additional activity in Engineering and
Construction Group (known as KBR) government services projects, including work in the
Middle East.

Herald Sun: Army attacks Iraq wedding [02nov03]: "HOME-LEAVE TROOPS FLEE

MORE than 30 US soldiers are missing after being given a two-week break from combat in Iraq.

The troops were among 1300 in the first large-scale home-leave program since the Vietnam War.

Some are thought to have genuine reasons for not catching flights back to Iraq from the US.

Military officials would not say how many were missing, but one, a National Guardsman from Florida, said he would do all he could to avoid returning.

'I definitely don't want to go back there,' he told CBS News. 'I think most people - if not all people who are there - don't want to be there.'
